We use temporary high-resolution electrical load profiling, onsite engineering investigation and overnight observation to examine how individual areas and systems are actually behaving.

So if your hotel already has an energy audit, energy survey, BMS, smart metering or permanent energy monitoring, SWP doesn't necessarily duplicate it. We investigate the electrical behaviour behind the data.

Why Measuring Actual Operation Matters

Efficient equipment and sophisticated controls are valuable — but the important question is how the building is actually operating today.

Maximum demand isn't normal demand.

Pumps, fans and other building-services plant are commonly selected to meet maximum expected demand, with an additional design margin to ensure adequate capacity under the most demanding conditions.

That's sensible engineering. But a hotel does not operate at maximum demand all of the time.

Variable-speed drives (VSDs), Building Management Systems (BMS) and other controls can allow plant output to respond as demand changes. The question is not simply whether those systems are installed — it is whether the plant is actually responding to demand as intended.

Working doesn't necessarily mean optimised.

Plant can continue doing its job while consuming more electricity than necessary. Controls can be overridden, equipment may remain in manual operation, operating schedules can change, or a VSD may no longer be varying speed as intended.

None of this necessarily creates an obvious fault. Guests may still have hot water, rooms remain comfortable and the hotel continues to operate normally. The difference may only become apparent when actual electrical behaviour is measured.

What if monitoring inherits an inefficient baseline?

Half-hourly data and cloud-based energy monitoring can provide valuable visibility into how a hotel consumes electricity and how that consumption changes over time.

But was the starting baseline efficient in the first place?

If unnecessary consumption already exists when monitoring begins, it can form part of the building's established operating profile.

SWP therefore combines measurement with onsite engineering investigation. We don't simply ask whether consumption is unusual compared with the past. We investigate whether the electricity being consumed is actually necessary for the work the building needs to do.
